About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly experienced Senior Backend Engineer to join their product development team in Kimberley . You will be responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining robust, scalable, and efficient APIs that power our core products and services. This role requires a deep understanding of backend systems, database design, and best practices in API development. You will work in a collaborative environment, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to architectural decisions, driving the technological evolution of our platform from Kimberley .

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain high-performance, reliable RESTful APIs using modern backend technologies.
  • Develop and optimize database schemas and queries for efficiency and scalability.
  • Write clean, well-documented, and thoroughly tested code, adhering to coding standards.
  • Collaborate with frontend developers, product managers, and other engineers to define API requirements and functionality.
  • Implement security best practices and ensure data protection within API services.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex backend issues in production and development environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of professional experience in backend development.
  • Strong proficiency in at least one backend programming language (e.g., Python, Node.js, Java, Go).
  • Extensive experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.
  • Solid understanding of database technologies (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL, MongoDB) and ORMs.
  • Experience with caching mechanisms, message queues, and distributed systems is a plus.
