Senior Backend Engineer - Databases Pyroscope | UK | Remote

As a Senior Engineer on Pyroscope, you will guide end-to-end projects that improve profiling, tracing, and integration within the Grafana stack. You’ll help scale Pyroscope to support more users and workflows, collaborating across teams to reduce cost and friction while enabling AI-enabled profiling. The role blends system design, product sense, and customer-facing thinking in a fully remote, global environment. You’ll contribute to open source and shape the roadmap through hands-on delivery and code leadership.

• Lead end-to-end projects from concept to rollout (e.g., read path efficiency, trace-to-profile correlation)
• Design, build, and operate core distributed-database components (ingestion, storage, query) with performance/cost trade-offs
• Participate in customer calls and translate pain points into deliverables in a PM-less environment
• Drive operational excellence with concrete SLOs and cost targets; automate to reduce toil
• Collaborate with App Observability, Alloy, Tempo, and other Database squads to maximize utility of profiles
• Support teammates via design discussions, code reviews, and pair programming in a remote setup
• Participate in on-call (EMEA rotation) and contribute to post-incident learning
• Contribute to open source, engaging the community and guiding project direction
• Leverage AI coding assistants within security guidelines to accelerate development
• Work on initiatives like adaptive profiles, bi-directional trace-to-profile, and BYOC/regions

• Solid experience with a systems programming language (Go; other languages like Rust, C, C++, Python, Java acceptable)
• Experience building/operating cloud services and multi-tenant data systems
• Strong product sense and ability to translate customer pain into deliverables
• Curiosity, courage, and willingness to challenge the status quo
• High software craftsmanship with maintainable, robust code
• Operational mindset with pager/SRE-like exposure and infrastructure-as-code
