(Senior) Backend Engineer, Maps

Join Wheely's Mapping team as a Backend Engineer to build high-performance Go services that power precise, low-latency routing and ETA predictions. You will create new microservices while migrating away from legacy components, collaborating with product, design and data science to translate requirements into robust designs. You’ll ensure systems scale under heavy load and maintain reliability, contributing to a fast-growing, geo-aware mobility platform. This role offers hands-on impact in a global, AWS/Kubernetes-based tech stack with modern development practices.

• Office-based role in West London
• Four days a week with one remote day
• Salary: 90,000 – 120,000

• Write high-quality Go code for new microservices
• Migrate away from legacy Ruby services while evolving architecture
• Collaborate with product managers, designers and data scientists to translate requirements into designs
• Ensure low latency and high reliability under heavy load
• Maintain and improve data pipelines and storage interactions with relational and NoSQL databases

• 3+ years of backend experience (5+ for seniors)
• Proficiency in Go; other languages accepted if strongest language is demonstrated
• Deep knowledge of PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis
• Experience with RabbitMQ or Kafka
• At least 1 year of mapping/geospatial experience (map-matching, routing)
