As a Mid/Senior Backend Engineer on Wheely’s Mapping team, you will build and evolve geospatial microservices that power fast, accurate ETA predictions and reliable journey tracking. You will work closely with product, design, and data science to translate complex spatial requirements into robust backend designs. The role sits at the intersection of mapping tech and high-scale systems, offering impact in routing accuracy and latency under heavy load. - Develop high-quality Go-based microservices and gradually migrate away from legacy Ruby services
- Collaborate with product, design, and data science to translate requirements into technical designs
- Ensure system responsiveness and reliability under heavy load, optimizing latency and performance
- Contribute to architecture and best practices (TDD, DDD, CI/CD) and maintainable codebases
- 3+ years building and maintaining scalable backend services (5+ for seniors)
- Proficiency in Go; strong fundamentals in any other language if not Go
- Deep knowledge of relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis) and message brokers (RabbitMQ, Kafka)
- Hands-on experience with mapping-related work (geospatial data, map-matching, road networks)
