(Senior) Backend Engineer, Marketplace

As a Mid/Senior Backend Engineer on Wheely’s Marketplace team, you build and evolve backend services that balance supply and demand, optimize pricing, and match chauffeurs with passengers. You’ll work with cross-functional teammates to translate abstract needs into robust Go-based microservices, while migrating away from a Ruby monolith. • Salary: 90,000 – 120,000

• Develop high-quality, performant Go code for new microservices
• Migrate away from legacy Ruby services while maintaining system stability
• Collaborate with product managers, designers, and data scientists to design solutions
• Keep systems responsive under heavy load, optimizing latency and reliability
• Contribute to architecture decisions and code reviews
• Align engineering work with CI/CD, TDD, and DDD practices

• 3+ years building scalable backend services (5+ for senior)
• Proficiency in Go; other languages accepted if strong
• Relational and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis)
• Experience with message brokers (RabbitMQ or Kafka)
• Knowledge of AWS, Kubernetes, Terraform or similar tooling
• Familiarity with microservices and migrating from monolithic architectures
