Overview

In this role you design and build the trigger system that connects GitLab events to AI-powered workflows, enabling automated AI-enabled actions. You work on a core part of the event platform that scales and remains highly available, supporting AI features across GitLab. You collaborate with product and design to evolve the trigger capabilities and integrate with third-party tools. You join a small, autonomous team within the AI Engineering organization that values async collaboration and impact across the platform.

Responsibilities
  • Design and implement the trigger system linking GitLab events and third-party tools to AI workflows (e.g., Jira, Jenkins, Slack)
  • Contribute to the core event platform and its infrastructure
  • Architect for high availability and throughput to support scalable AI workflows
  • Work within GitLab's Rails monolith while staying open to other languages used in the platform
  • Influence product and architecture direction with iterative solutions for complex, multi-service problems
  • Collaborate with product managers and designers to define next trigger types and capabilities
  • Coordinate with Duo Agent Platform teams to ensure clean integration with the broader ecosystem
  • Participate in Tier 2/3 on-call rotations for production, security, and urgent issues
Key requirements
  • Deep experience with Ruby and Rails in a large monolith
  • Proven track record shipping products that interface with large language models
  • Experience designing and operating high-availability, large-scale systems
  • Hands-on experience with agentic systems and AI-driven workflows
  • Ability to learn quickly as AI capabilities evolve and the team ships new features
