Senior Backend Engineer Tax Systems

Build high-throughput tax systems at Coinbase, focusing on distributed services and data pipelines where correctness is critical. Work remotely with quarterly surges.

As a Senior Software Engineer on the Tax team, you will support Coinbase Consumer & Business products. Your work covers cost basis tracking, gain/loss calculation, withholding automation, and compliance reporting. You will design extensible backend primitives for products spanning trades, payments, equities, margin, and options.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and deliver backend tax infrastructure systems
• Build broker reporting and withholding pipelines
• Integrate clearing systems with external partners
• Translate ambiguous problems into production solutions
• Mentor engineers through reviews and technical guidance

Requirements:

• Six-plus years building production backend software
• Strong distributed systems fundamentals and high-throughput service experience
• Experience designing critical data pipelines
• End-to-end ownership of complex systems
• Responsible generative AI use with human oversight
