Overview

In this role you design and evolve backend capabilities for a global, AI-enabled platform used by millions. You’ll shape technical direction across product, frontend, data, and security, balancing reliability, performance, and scalability. You’ll work asynchronously with cross-functional teams, mentor engineers, and drive high-impact architectural decisions. You’ll experiment with agentic AI to improve production engineering workflows and build resilient systems.

Responsibilities
  • Design and ship moderately complex backend features with minimal guidance
  • Define backend standards for style, maintainability, APIs, testing, and operational readiness
  • Mentor associate and intermediate engineers and remove technical blockers
  • Diagnose and prevent performance/reliability issues at scale; participate in incident response
  • Integrate AI into production engineering workflows and coach others on responsible use
Key requirements
  • Deep Backend expertise in architecture, APIs, data systems, and performance tuning
  • Adaptability with modern backend languages and systems programming
  • Architectural judgment for modular boundaries and migration-safe architectures
  • Ability to influence through technical judgment and clear written communication
