• Lead design, development and evolution of a scalable data platform to drive data engineering excellence
• Translate business, security and technical requirements into platform solutions
• Make key technical decisions to ensure scalability, security, resilience and maintainability
• Champion practices in coding, automation, Infrastructure as Code, testing and documentation
• Provide technical leadership through coaching, design reviews and collaborative problem-solving
• Build and maintain automated deployment, testing and operational capabilities
• Create reusable tools, templates and self-service solutions to boost engineering efficiency
• Partner with product and delivery teams to deliver complex platform initiatives
• Ensure platform performance, availability and security through monitoring and proactive resolution
• Lead troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and continuous improvement activities
• Embed security, governance and data management best practices across the platform
• Optimise platform usage and cloud costs while exploring emerging technologies to drive innovation

• Significant experience engineering and supporting cloud-based or enterprise data platforms in a complex organisation
• Strong practical knowledge of cloud platform services, data storage, compute, networking, identity and access controls
• Experience with infrastructure as code and configuration automation using relevant tools and languages
• Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines
• Understanding of data platform architecture (ingestion, transformation, orchestration, storage, consumption)
• Experience engineering for security, resilience, monitoring, recoverability, performance and operational support
• Experience with source control, automated testing, peer review and engineering standards
• Ability to lead technical design, explain trade-offs and influence stakeholders across teams
• Experience coaching or mentoring engineers and ensuring quality of technical work
• Strong written and verbal communication, analytical thinking and problem-solving
• Relevant degree, technical qualification or equivalent practical experience
