Overview

As a Controls Engineer in Abbott’s Witney Operations, you will apply advanced control-system thinking to optimize manufacturing automation for glucose monitoring components. You’ll collaborate with engineering peers to implement motion-control solutions, interpret PLC code, and contribute to continuous improvement in a highly regulated environment. This role offers hands-on work with state-of-the-art automation and a clear path to impact quality and efficiency in production. Responsibilities
  • Develop and apply innovative control solutions for manufacturing automation
  • Collaborate with engineering colleagues on motion-control systems
  • Interpret PLC codes, debug issues and support continuous improvement
  • Fault-find and modify PLC, HMI, and motion-control aspects of automated equipment
  • Work with Siemens S7/TIA Portal and Allen Bradley Studio 5000; exposure to structured language
  • Document procedures and maintain compliance in a regulated environment
  • Contribute to cross-functional engineering projects across production, R&D, and systems
Key requirements
  • Experience on automation projects and delivering solutions to complex automation needs
  • Proven track record of fault finding and modifying PLC, HMI, and motion-control systems
  • Qualified to HNC level or higher in Electrical, Electronic or Control Engineering (or equivalent via apprenticeship)
  • Essential experience with Siemens S7/TIA Portal and Allen Bradley Studio 5000
  • Desirable exposure to structured language in both platforms
  • Knowledge of Oracle database is advantageous
