Senior Data Analyst

Our client, one of Canada's leading insurance providers, is seeking a Senior Data Analyst to join their Commercial Underwriting team. This position will support a strategic Advanced Commercial Underwriting (ACU) initiative focused on leveraging data to improve underwriting decisions, optimize business rules, and deliver actionable insights to key stakeholders.
This is a highly visible, business-facing role where you'll partner directly with underwriting teams to analyze complex data, uncover trends, and provide recommendations that drive smarter business outcomes. The ideal candidate combines strong technical skills with the ability to communicate insights effectively to non-technical stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze large underwriting and commercial insurance datasets to identify trends, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop and execute complex SQL queries to support reporting, analytics, and business decision-making.
- Work with data platforms including Azure Synapse and Databricks to access, transform, and analyze data.
- Evaluate underwriting business rules and assess their effectiveness through data-driven analysis.
- Partner closely with underwriting and business stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver analytical solutions.
- Translate complex analytical findings into clear, actionable recommendations.
- Support strategic initiatives through data storytelling, reporting, and insights generation.
- Operate independently while managing stakeholder relationships across multiple business groups.
Required Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience as a Data Analyst, Senior Data Analyst, or similar analytics-focused role.
- Advanced SQL skills with the ability to write and optimize complex queries.
- Hands-on experience with Azure Synapse Analytics and Databricks .
- Experience within the Insurance industry , preferably supporting:
- Commercial Insurance
- Policy Analytics
- Strong stakeholder management skills and the ability to work independently.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Experience translating business questions into data-driven solutions.
Compensation
- $40/hr to $55/hr
- Exact compensation may vary based on several factors, including skills, experience, and education.
