Job Title: Senior Data Engineer

Location: Edmonton, AB (Remote - Onsite meetings may occur approximately 3-4 times per fiscal month)

Duration: 116 Business Days with possible extension

Client: Public Sector

Pay Rate: $80 - $100/hr (CAD)

Position Overview

We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to provide development, operational support, and continuous improvement services for an enterprise Data Management Platform . The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, monitoring, troubleshooting, maintaining, and enhancing Talend-based integration solutions supporting critical business applications, data exchanges, analytics, and reporting.

This is a hands-on technical role requiring strong Talend and SQL development skills , along with a service-oriented approach to platform operations, including job scheduling, monitoring, error handling, incident resolution, and production support.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Post-secondary degree, diploma, or certificate in Computer Science or a related field .
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing, developing, testing, and supporting enterprise integration solutions using Talend Studio .
  • Minimum 5 years of experience administering and supporting Talend Management Console (TMC) or Talend Administration Center (TAC) .
  • Minimum 3 years of experience installing, configuring, supporting, and troubleshooting Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and Talend runtime infrastructure .
  • Minimum 2 years of experience providing production support for enterprise integration solutions.
  • Minimum 4 years of experience working within a mature Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) using Git, code reviews, CI/CD pipelines, testing, release management, documentation, and change management.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience using AI for code generation, data analysis, automation, and productivity enhancement in data engineering workflows.

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years of hands-on experience performing business requirement analysis related to data manipulation, transformation, cleansing, and wrangling.
  • Minimum 6 years of experience with Microsoft SQL Server , including database design, optimization, and administration.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience building scalable ETL pipelines , implementing data quality practices, and cloud integration using Talend.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience designing and integrating RESTful APIs .
  • Minimum 3 years of experience with message queuing technologies , such as ActiveMQ and Azure Service Bus.
  • Minimum 1 year of experience working with ServiceNow and Azure-based Data Management Platform integrations .

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, and deploy Talend integration jobs, services, APIs, and reusable components .
  • Develop enterprise ETL/ELT solutions integrating data across databases, files, APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications.
  • Translate business and data requirements into technical designs, data mappings, transformation logic, and reconciliation processes.
  • Build reusable, parameterized, and environment-aware integrations across development, testing, and production environments.
  • Develop scalable batch and near-real-time integration solutions.
  • Deploy, schedule, orchestrate, and monitor Talend jobs, services, and platform components.
  • Administer and support Talend Management Console (TMC) or Talend Administration Center (TAC) .
  • Support Talend Remote Engines, Job Servers, and runtime infrastructure.
  • Monitor platform health, job execution, throughput, failures, logging, alerting, and automated recovery processes.
  • Investigate and resolve integration issues, production incidents, data-load failures, and performance bottlenecks.
  • Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement corrective actions to prevent recurring issues.
  • Support production releases, platform upgrades, patching, configuration, and environment maintenance.
  • Work with infrastructure teams, vendors, data engineers, architects, application teams, and business stakeholders to resolve integration and platform issues.
  • Participate in solution design, estimation, release planning, testing, documentation, and change management activities.
  • Utilize AI and automation tools to improve data engineering workflows, including pipeline development, testing, monitoring, documentation, code generation, optimization, and review.
  • Follow established SDLC, Git-based source control, code review, CI/CD, testing, release management, and governance processes .
