Senior Data Engineer

As a Senior Data Engineer at Kainos, you design and build data processing and persistence components for large-scale solutions. You will work in agile, multi-skilled teams to deliver production-ready data systems, collaborating with architects and operations to meet performance and reliability goals. You’ll lead by example on code quality, mentor teammates, and contribute to estimating effort for data-driven user journeys. The role combines hands-on development with strategic guidance in a people-first, innovative environment.

• Design and develop data processing software for big data deployments
• Own components across the full software lifecycle (design, code, test, defect resolution)
• Collaborate with architects/lead engineers to meet non-functional requirements
• Maintain code quality and mentor team members
• Coordinate with operations for operational readiness
• Advise on effort estimates and technical implications of user stories

• Strong software development experience in Java, Scala, or Python
• Experience with data-processing platforms on AWS, Azure, GCP, Databricks
• Proven ability to develop substantial components for large-scale data processing in production
• Proficient in SQL and analytical SQL extensions
• Solid ETL/ELT design pattern knowledge
• Awareness of distributed data processing frameworks, data stores, and data serialization formats
• Ability to write high-quality, testable code and automate tests
• Experience with CI/CD practices
