As a Senior Data Fabric Engineer at QinetiQ Farnborough, you will design, build and operate a secure, extensible data fabric for Defence and National Security. You’ll create a shared data integration platform that supports batch, streaming, and analyst workflows across DDIL edge environments. You’ll enable automation, governance, and secure data patterns to meet customer outcomes. - Design and evolve the event-driven data fabric architecture for ingestion, storage, processing, metadata, governance and access patterns
- Build and operate workflow automation supporting reusable, configuration-driven analyst workflows and safe promotion across environments
- Provide configurable data integration via connectors and standard patterns with clear contracts and guardrails
- Engineer for DDIL and edge deployments, enabling local processing and secure configuration distribution
- Develop streaming ingestion and batch/stream processing using distributed technologies and Apache Flink and/or Apache Spark
- Implement metadata, lineage, catalogue, and policy-based security and governance
- Extensive experience as a data/platform engineer working on production distributed systems
- Hands-on with open-source data integration and streaming tech and reusable integration patterns
- Experience enabling workflow automation for technical users
- Strong data modelling fundamentals, data contracts and schema evolution
- Experience designing for reliability, scalability, operability, monitoring, deployment automation, incident handling, and performance tuning
- Practical security mindset with least privilege, auditability, and usable security controls
