Senior Data Scientist

As a Senior Data Scientist in Royal Mail's Data Insights team, you will design and deliver data science projects that deliver measurable business value at national scale. You will work with large, complex datasets and modern analytics techniques to inform strategic decisions and optimize operations. You’ll translate technical results into actionable recommendations for both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and help promote best practices across the function. This role offers the chance to shape data-driven transformation at a UK-wide organisation and collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive real-world impact.

• Lead design and delivery of data science solutions delivering measurable business value
• Work with complex datasets to uncover insights and support strategic decisions
• Apply ML, statistics, optimisation and AI techniques to business challenges
• Design and evaluate experiments, test hypotheses, and provide evidence-based recommendations
• Develop proofs-of-concept and ensure smooth handover to production/operations
• Communicate findings to technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Contribute to data science best practices, innovation, and continuous improvement
• Represent Royal Mail's DS capability through presentations and knowledge sharing

• Master's degree in a quantitative discipline or equivalent practical experience
• End-to-end DS delivery experience from exploration to deployment and monitoring
• Strong knowledge of statistical modelling, ML and optimisation
• Experience with AI technologies and foundation models to solve business problems
• Expertise in Python and ML libraries; strong SQL skills
• Experience with cloud platforms (Azure, AWS or GCP)
• Knowledge of software engineering and reproducible DS practices (version control, testing, experiment tracking)
• Excellent communication skills to translate complex concepts into business insights
