Senior Database Engineer - Postgres

Overview

In this role you will manage and optimize mission-critical PostgreSQL and Oracle databases to support DRW’s global trading operations. You will work with the engineering team to ensure reliable, secure, and scalable data platforms across production and non-production environments. You’ll tune performance, implement backups and replication, and collaborate with development teams to optimize database usage. The position offers exposure to high-impact, fast-paced environments where robust data infrastructure enables rapid opportunity capture. You will contribute to resilient architectures and continuous improvement while aligning with DRW’s standards and processes.

Responsibilities
  • Proactively manage and optimize PostgreSQL and Oracle database platforms and related OS environments
  • Perform database performance and query tuning
  • Implement and maintain production and non-production databases
  • Perform backups, restores, log shipping, mirroring and replication
  • Collaborate with system engineering on installations, configurations, performance tuning and capacity planning
  • Work with development teams on database design and usage optimization
  • Respond to production and business-critical issues
Key requirements
  • 5+ years of production PostgreSQL database engineering experience
  • 5+ years of production Oracle database engineering experience (desired)
  • Strong UNIX/Linux skills
  • Experience with clustering, replication and mirroring is a plus
  • Strong knowledge of database performance tuning and configuration tools
  • Strong technical problem-solving skills
  • Must be self-motivated with initiative and willingness to take on new challenges
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration skills
  • Ability to learn new technologies quickly and adapt to different environments
  • Understanding of SDLC, source control and change management protocols
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
