Senior Developer

In this role you will design, build and maintain cloud-first, high-performance backend services for SSE Energy Markets, enabling real-time market execution and transaction processing. You’ll work within an Agile team to modernise critical market systems in Azure-based, distributed environments. You’ll drive observability, security-by-default practices and end-to-end delivery while collaborating across business units to support SSE’s net-zero-focused energy markets.

• Design, develop and support cloud-first, scalable software solutions for real-time market execution and transaction processing
• Contribute to end-to-end delivery from API design to deployment and service integration
• Embed observability with logging, metrics and alerting (Azure Monitor, Splunk) for rapid diagnostics
• Champion engineering excellence through clean design, automation and documentation to support scalability

• Strong backend engineering with .NET / C# in high-throughput, event-driven distributed systems
• Experience with real-time data processing/transaction systems, Azure Event Hubs, messaging patterns and scalable cloud-native architectures
• EF Core, SQL Server, and NoSQL like Azure Cosmos DB with migrations and schema evolution
• Docker for containerised development and deployment of microservices
• CI/CD pipelines with Azure DevOps Pipelines and GitHub Actions
• Automated testing including unit, integration and end-to-end (TUnit, Playwright)
• Python scripting for automation and tooling is advantageous
