Fortress Games is an independent video game studio based out of Calgary, Canada. We are currently in the early production stages of our first title, Zero State Agent, and looking for a strategic addition to our Management Team. At Fortress Games, our vision is for players to find fun through unique and meaningful play, driven by memorable moments and unforgettable experiences.

Set in the near-future of the vast and diverse wilderness of Canada, against a backdrop of espionage and covert operations, Zero State Agent brings tactical stealth gameplay to open-world survival. Launching on PC, players will explore, craft, build, infiltrate and survive as they discover the truth behind a new global threat and the forces that brought them there.

The Challenge Ahead This is a key technical role that offers a recognized expert the opportunity to lead and manage technical game development for a new indie studio. You will be involved, and a key decision maker, in all aspects of game development, working collaboratively with game designers, artists and marketers to bring the vision of Zero State Agent to life.

We are looking for a technical expert with demonstrated experience in full-cycle game development, from conception to shipping, who can assume a leadership role within Fortress Games to help build our team and deliver an outstanding game.

Responsibilities:

Lead and direct all technical aspects of game development, guiding internal and external teams

Define the strategic direction and execution of technology and quality assurance for the studio

Be responsible for process, schedule and quality aspects of game development, including establishing the development framework, reporting, risk management, capacity planning, resource management and budget

Support the creative game design process in coordination with our Creative Director

Support the building of an internal technical game development team

Evaluate, select, and manage external development partners as required

Mentor and support junior development resources

Design highly scalable, testable code and drive implementation through technical teams

Manage the discovery and fixing of programming bugs

Foster an engaging, fulfilling and fun working environment

Closely collaborate with leadership to lead and scale the studio into the future

Qualifications

8+ years of experience as a professional game developer

Demonstrated experience in full-cycle game development, from conception to shipping

Extensive knowledge of game architecture and technologies

Extensive knowledge of C#/C++ programming languages

Extensive knowledge of Unity or Unreal systems and procedures

Experience with cooperative multiplayer (8-12 players)

Experience with procedural world generation

Experience with debugging, profiling, and performance optimizations

Ability to lead a team and educate junior team members

Creative, ambitious, curious, resourceful, autonomous, and good team player

A strong desire to be an early member of a small team with big ideas!
