Senior Distributed Systems Engineer Payments

Engineer high-throughput payment services at Xero in Vancouver, using cloud-native platforms, backend expertise, and production-focused technical judgement. This Senior Engineer role supports Xero’s Payments Platform, an area building foundations for collecting and paying money. You will own significant initiatives across provider integrations, onboarding, risk and compliance, reconciliation, bill payments, or orchestration. The work combines hands-on coding, system design, operational readiness, and close collaboration with product and engineering partners. Key Responsibilities:

Deliver payment capabilities end-to-end across design and rollout Build reusable foundations supporting multiple providers and regions Operate dependable services under real-world production constraints Balance simplicity, financial control, reliability, and scalability Help shape engineering practices and quality standards Requirements:

Track record with high-throughput distributed systems Experience on AWS, Azure, or GCP platforms Modern backend proficiency in Go, Java, Kotlin, Python, Ruby, or C++ Strong architecture and data-store decision-making skills Hands-on production coding and technical deep-dive experience Use distributed systems, cloud platforms, and payment engineering skills to strengthen Xero’s Vancouver Payments Platform.
