Overview
As Senior Engineer you will lead engineering delivery on a high-profile, technically complex life science/commercial project in Oxford, focusing on the double-basement and concrete frame works. You will coordinate with PMs, site and design teams, and specialist subcontractors to ensure timely, compliant delivery. The role combines demolition, enabling works and the construction of a major substructure, with a clear path to mentoring junior engineers. This is an opportunity to shape a complex build for a Tier 1 contractor with substantial backing and pipeline.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage engineering activities across the project
- Oversee setting out, surveying and dimensional control
- Manage engineering interfaces between permanent and temporary works and subcontractors
- Provide technical support during demolition, excavation and basement construction
- Coordinate the delivery of the double-basement structure and associated concrete works
- Collaborate with design team to resolve technical queries and ensure efficient construction information delivery
- Review drawings, specifications and design information to pre-empt issues
- Ensure works meet project specifications, quality requirements and standards
- Support planning and sequencing of the concrete frame
- Maintain accurate engineering records and documentation
- Mentor and support junior engineers within the project team
- Strong technical background in major building projects
- Experience on complex concrete frame schemes
- Concrete frame construction experience
- Deep basement construction, ideally double-basement projects
- Demolition and enabling works experience
- Complex substructure and excavation packages experience
- Temporary works and structural interfaces experience
- Setting out and surveying experience
- Experience working in a Tier 1/main contractor environment
- Experience delivering large-scale commercial, life sciences, healthcare or complex buildings (advantageous)
- Collaborative working with design teams and stakeholders
- Mentoring/leadership of junior engineers
- Proactive issue identification and problem solving
