Overview

You will provide engineering designs and support across the development process, from viability to construction. You’ll assess consultant designs for cost-effectiveness and compliance, manage civil/structural design partners, and liaise with NHBC to meet pre-construction standards. You’ll ensure information is ready for tender, production, and consent, while coordinating with authorities and contractors to deliver quality, compliant solutions. This role offers impact across planning, delivery, and value engineering within a collaborative housebuilding environment.

Responsibilities
  • Prepare viabilities and interpret geo-technical reports
  • Draft initial site designs and constraints plans
  • Procure designs and quotes for utilities and new proposals
  • Understand and apply CDM regulations
  • Resolve planning-related engineering issues
  • Manage external consultants for roads, sewers, and drainage
  • Coordinate with Highway Authorities, Water Companies, and Environment Agency
  • Ensure compliance with building regulations and NHBC standards
  • Prepare foundations and plot drainage designs
  • Oversee information for concept/pre-tender/site start meetings
  • Procure technical approvals for highways, sewerage, drainage, and utilities
  • Arrange and manage utility provisions at key project stages
  • Prepare deed plans and setting-out drawings
  • Contribute to ESAP/CDM/Health & Safety/Environmental planning
  • Prepare tender documentation for specialist designs (e.g., piled foundations)
Key requirements
  • Extensive experience in housebuilding engineering (roads, sewers, foundations, drainage, utilities)
  • IT/Computer literate
  • Engineering degree or equivalent (preferably accredited by RICS or ICE)
  • Ability to manage in-house design and assess external designs
  • Strong interpretation of geotechnical and environmental reports
  • Knowledge of ground condition assessments for foundations and sub-structure
  • Valuable track record in delivering value from design changes
