Senior Engineer - Data Science

In this role you will design and deliver APIs and integrations to expose ML models and data products at scale, connecting Databricks with internal apps and enterprise platforms. You will own the serving layer, ensuring reliability, security, and governance, while mentoring peers and driving quality through code reviews and CI/CD practices. You’ll work closely with data science and engineering teams to prototype, validate, and demonstrate model outputs. This is a hands-on backend leadership role in a collaborative, high-performing environment with a clear impact on enabling AI capabilities across RBC.

• Design and build REST and GraphQL APIs to expose ML models from Databricks to internal apps and enterprise systems with contract design, versioning, authentication, and documentation
• Build MCP servers to expose models and data products for AI agents and LLM apps
• Create middleware layers for transformation, enrichment, or protocol adaptation between Databricks and downstream consumers
• Maintain API stability and documentation, gather feedback from consumers, and iterate accordingly
• Collaborate with ML and data engineers to ensure reliable, governed infrastructure
• Develop lightweight prototype applications to test and validate model outputs and MCP capabilities
• Mentor junior colleagues through code reviews and knowledge sharing, promoting clean code, CI/CD, and automated testing
• Ensure security and governance standards are met across APIs, MCP servers, and integrations

• Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field
• Extensive back-end software engineering experience with API design and production-grade delivery
• Proficiency in Python with hands-on API development (FastAPI, Flask, or similar)
• Experience with cloud data platforms, particularly Databricks
• Experience designing and building MCP servers and managing server lifecycle
