Senior Engineer (Java, Typescript & Azure)

In this role you will help shape and deliver modern cloud-based solutions within the Group Protection tech team. You’ll work across the full software lifecycle with cross-functional partners to build scalable, secure applications that serve customers and colleagues. You’ll drive engineering excellence, mentor others and contribute to architectural decisions. The opportunity focuses on reducing technical debt, improving platform sustainability, and elevating practices across the team. • Own and evolve services and applications across their full lifecycle
• Collaborate with product owners and stakeholders to translate business needs into technical solutions
• Design, develop and deploy scalable applications using modern engineering practices
• Improve quality through automated testing, observability and continuous improvement
• Lead technical problem-solving and support incident investigation and resolution
• Champion secure software development practices and promote engineering best practices
• Mentor and coach engineers to strengthen team capability and excellence
• Contribute to architectural decisions, reduce technical debt and improve platform sustainability

• Java and JavaScript/TypeScript development
• RESTful microservices in Spring Boot, Node.js or similar
• Cloud technologies with Azure, plus infrastructure and containerisation tools
• CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices (GitHub Actions)
• Software design principles, clean architecture and test-driven development
• Agile experience (Scrum or Kanban)
