Overview

As a Senior Frontend Engineer in the Repository Management team within Source Code, you will build secure, high-quality frontend features using modern web tech. You will translate complex requirements into intuitive interfaces and collaborate across product, design, and UX to solve customer problems. You will ensure reliability and performance, contribute to AI-driven workflows, and help maintain a robust, observable surface for GitLab.com and self-managed deployments. This role offers technical leadership in a high-performance, collaborative environment and the chance to shape critical repository management experiences.

Responsibilities
  • Develop secure, well-tested, performant features with Vue.js and GraphQL
  • Translate complex requirements and legacy constraints into clear, reliable solutions
  • Collaborate with product management, design, and UX to build intuitive, responsive interfaces
  • Work across functions and teams with domain experts to improve outcomes
  • Leverage AI agents for scoped work while reviewing their output for quality
  • Write maintainable code that follows GitLab standards and contribute to code reviews
  • Improve reliability by monitoring production health, participating in on-call, performing root cause analysis, and boosting observability
  • Share knowledge through code review and documentation while learning from others
Key requirements
  • Experience with Vue.js or another modern JS framework and GraphQL
  • Strong understanding of HTML, CSS, core JavaScript, responsive design, accessibility, and frontend performance
  • Experience solving complex policy/permissions problems in web apps
  • Frontend unit and acceptance testing experience (Jest, Karma, Jasmine, Mocha, ava, tape) and testing pyramid familiarity
  • Proven track record of using AI coding agents in a large monorepo, with governance over their output
  • Experience using Git and participating in collaborative code reviews
  • Clear English communication, with ability to influence in a remote, asynchronous environment
  • Ability to manage priorities, navigate ambiguity, take ownership, and seek guidance when needed
