Senior Java Backend Developer

• Design, develop and enhance scalable backend applications and services using Java and Spring-based technologies
• Build and maintain APIs and microservices supporting high-volume, business-critical applications
• Work across solution design, development, testing, code review and production support
• Collaborate with developers, Business Systems Analysts, Technical Leads and stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions
• Apply object-oriented design principles, engineering practices and design patterns
• Develop and integrate RESTful APIs and services within complex enterprise environments
• Work with relational databases and data persistence technologies
• Participate in code reviews, automated testing, debugging and performance optimization
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering practices, development processes and delivery effectiveness
• Use modern development tools and explore AI-assisted engineering techniques
• Communicate with client and internal teams in a collaborative delivery environment

Requirements

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with strong hands-on experience developing backend applications in Java
• Strong experience with Spring and Spring Boot
• Experience designing and developing REST APIs and microservices
• Strong understanding of object-oriented programming, software design principles and common design patterns
• Experience working with relational databases, SQL and core database concepts
• Experience with Git-based source control and modern software development practices
• Experience writing and maintaining automated tests and participating in code reviews
• Strong debugging, problem-solving and analytical skills
• Experience working within Agile software delivery teams
• Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with both technical and business stakeholders
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience
• Previous experience within banking, payments or financial services
• Experience building or supporting high-volume, transaction-oriented systems
• Experience with cloud-native application development and modern enterprise architectures
• Experience with messaging, event-driven architectures or distributed systems
• Hands-on experience using AI-assisted software development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code or similar
• Interest in applying AI across requirements analysis, solution design, coding, testing, debugging and code review
• Experience working in consulting or client-facing delivery environments
