Overview

In this role you will act as a senior technical SME crafting user-centred digital solutions. You will drive delivery within multidisciplinary teams, mentor peers, and maintain strong client relationships. You’ll design pipelines and tackle bottlenecks, while presenting progress to stakeholders. You contribute to recruiting and external engagement to promote Hippo’s engineering craft. This position sits at the intersection of engineering, design and consulting, enabling measurable impact for clients and the team.

Responsibilities
  • Act as a technical SME to ensure user-centred software is developed to business requirements using best practices
  • Collaborate with colleagues to design and deliver client solutions
  • Design and manage software development and deployment pipelines, preempting bottlenecks
  • Communicate progress and prototypes clearly to stakeholders
  • Build relationships with team and stakeholders and help overcome challenges
  • Participate in recruitment and support the professional development of consultants
  • Promote Hippo’s engineering capabilities externally (blogs, workshops, conferences)
Key requirements
  • Excellent verbal and written communication, able to translate technical concepts for varied audiences
  • Experience across the full development lifecycle delivering user-centred digital solutions
  • Full stack Java with CXF, Spring Boot, Jetty, Mustache, HTML, CSS, JavaScript
  • JavaScript framework experience (Node, React, Angular) preferred
  • Containerisation experience (Docker, Kubernetes or similar)
  • Experience with Microservices design and RESTful services
  • Agile methods experience (Scrum, Kanban, TDD)
  • Infrastructure as Code (CloudFormation, Terraform, ARM or similar)
  • Public cloud expertise (AWS or Azure) and DevOps
  • CI/CD tools (Jenkins, AWS CodeBuild, Azure DevOps, Atlassian)
