Senior Java Flink Engineer Toronto

Build high-throughput streaming systems as a Senior Java Engineer specializing in Apache Flink, working hybrid from downtown Toronto three days weekly.

This senior backend engineering role supports the Core Data Platform team in evolving real-time data architecture. You will develop stateful pipelines with Java DataStream and Table/SQL APIs, integrate Apache Kafka or AWS Kinesis, and deliver scalable event-driven solutions. The position focuses on production stream processing, reliability, and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Design and maintain production-grade stateful Flink applications
• Architect event-driven systems using Kafka or Kinesis
• Optimize clusters, memory settings, serializers, and RocksDB performance
• Manage checkpointing, savepoints, and schema evolution
• Partner with Data Science, DevOps, and Product teams

Requirements:

• Five-plus years of professional backend software engineering experience
• Two-plus years building production Apache Flink pipelines
• Mastery of Java 11/17+, concurrency, and memory management
• Strong Apache Kafka and schema registry experience
• Understanding of event time, watermarking, windows, and late data
