Overview

In this role you will own the design and development of scalable backend services within a modern Laravel environment, while shaping frontend components using Blade, Livewire and modern tooling. You collaborate across DevOps, QA and cross-functional teams to improve CI/CD, testing, and deployment practices. You’ll tackle complex architecture challenges, optimise integrations with third-party services, and drive technical debt reduction. This position offers autonomy and the chance to influence the full stack in a containerised, AWS-backed environment.

Responsibilities
  • Design and develop backend services in Laravel for scalable, maintainable architectures
  • Own service-layer logic and modular solutions to support integrations and business operations
  • Evolve queue job handling with improved reliability, traceability and error management
  • Collaborate with DevOps and QA to enhance CI/CD, automated testing and deployments
  • Maintain and optimise Docker-based environments and multiple queue workers
  • Identify and resolve technical debt to achieve production-readiness
  • Contribute to system integration with RingCentral, Twilio, AWS and internal APIs
  • Maintain code quality through peer reviews and mentoring on best practices across the stack
  • Improve frontend tooling and workflows with Livewire, TailwindCSS and Vite
  • Stay current with Laravel ecosystem updates and contribute to technical strategy
Key requirements
  • Strong commercial PHP 8+ experience and Laravel 10+
  • Full-stack capability including Blade templating, Livewire and modern frontend tooling (Vite, TailwindCSS, Node)
  • Solid database design and optimisation, preferably MySQL, and Redis for caching/queues
  • Experience with Docker and docker-compose in containerised environments
  • Hands-on with background jobs and queue-based workflows
  • Git proficiency, PRs, and peer reviews
  • Good communication and collaboration across disciplines
  • Testing and CI practices, ideally PHPUnit
  • Ability to work independently on large tasks while contributing to technical direction
