Overview

As a Senior Low Latency Engineer at Citi, you will lead the development of high-performance, low-latency trading infrastructure and platforms. You will work within the London-based HPA team to advance algorithmic trading capabilities and market data utilities, shaping mission-critical systems used across Citi. You will mentor and collaborate with engineers, delivering scalable Java/Rust solutions and bridging complex business needs with technical design. This role offers impact at scale and opportunities to drive modernization across multiple teams.

Responsibilities
  • Hands-on development in Java or Rust within a low-latency, microservices-based framework
  • Lead integration of functions to meet goals and deploy new products
  • Analyze complex business and system processes to design solutions
  • Provide SME expertise in Java low-latency development
  • Leverage knowledge of market data flows and system architecture to achieve tech goals
  • Consult with end users to specify system functions and incorporate into design
  • Influence and negotiate with senior leaders and external parties
  • Mentor junior and less experienced developers
Key requirements
  • Subject Matter Expert in Applications Development
  • Experience in Algorithmic Trading development in low-latency environments
  • Experience with Market Data handling and technologies (e.g., KDB)
  • Leadership, project management, and software development skills
  • Proficiency in modern Java, JVM, Linux, system calls, and Kernel
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and kernel bypass technologies (e.g., Solarflare OpenOnload)
  • Performance assessment and tuning capabilities
  • Strong design and architectural sense
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Ability to produce UML diagrams when needed
  • Nice to have: C++ background
  • Excellent communication with high EQ
