Overview

As a Senior Low Latency Java Engineer, you will lead the development and modernization of high-performance trading systems within Citi’s HPA team. You’ll build and optimize low-latency Java solutions, collaborate with cross-functional peers, and mentor junior developers. You’ll work on market data handling, event-sourcing microservices, and trading utilities that operate with microsecond-scale response times. This role offers impact across Citi’s eTrading platforms and a chance to shape enterprise-level performance frameworks.

Responsibilities
  • Hands-on work in the Java codebase within a low-latency, in-house framework
  • Lead integration of features to meet goals and deploy products
  • Analyze complex business and system processes to design solutions for high-level problems
  • Provide expert Java low-latency development knowledge across multiple areas
  • Consult with end users to capture function specifications and translate into design
  • Influence and negotiate with senior leaders and external parties
  • Assess risk and ensure compliance, ethics, and control issues are transparently managed
  • Mentor and educate junior developers and less experienced seniors
Key requirements
  • Subject Matter Expert in Applications Development
  • Experience in Algorithmic Trading development, preferably in low latency
  • Strong understanding of Market Data handling and technologies (e.g., KDB)
  • Leadership, project management, and development skills
  • Passion for building commercial-grade Java frameworks based on event sourcing microservices
  • Proficiency with modern Java, JVM, Linux, system calls, and kernel concepts
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP and kernel bypass technologies (e.g., Solarflare OpenOnload)
  • Experience with performance assessment and tuning
  • Ability to produce UML sequence diagrams and clear documentation
  • Strong communication, relationship-building, and consensus skills
