Overview

Senior Low Latency Rust Engineer at Citi leads the design, development, and integration of high-performance trading systems. You will work in Citi’s London High Performance Architectures team to deliver low-latency microservices and event-sourcing frameworks, collaborating with senior stakeholders and mentoring junior developers. You’ll tackle algorithmic trading and market data challenges, shaping scalable infrastructure for global markets. This role offers hands-on coding, system optimization, and cross-team impact in a mission-critical financial technology environment.

Responsibilities
  • 90% hands-on in Rust or Java within a low-latency, in-house framework
  • Lead integration of functions to meet goals and deploy new products
  • Analyze complex business and system processes to define high-level solutions
  • Provide SME expertise in Java low-latency development
  • Utilize deep knowledge of core system flows to achieve technology goals
  • Consult with end users to translate requirements into design
  • Influence and negotiate with senior leaders and external parties
  • Mentor junior developers and less experienced peers
Key requirements
  • Subject Matter Expert in Applications Development
  • Experience with algorithmic trading in a low-latency environment
  • Deep experience with market data handling and technologies (e.g., time-series databases like KDB)
  • Leadership, project management and development skills
  • Strong coding for mission-critical Java frameworks using event sourcing microservices
  • Proficiency with modern Java, JVM, Linux, system calls and kernel
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP networking and kernel bypass (Solarflare OpenOnload)
  • Performance tuning and architectural design
  • Effective communication and diagrammatic modeling (UML)
  • Relationship-building and consensus skills
  • Nice to have: background in C++
  • Great communicator with high EQ
