Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Fitch Ratings is hiring a Senior Machine Learning Engineer for its AI Innovation teams in Toronto. The role focuses on building production-grade generative AI systems and machine learning platforms for financial analysis.

Responsibilities

• Design and build generative AI solutions, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) architectures, and intelligent platforms.
• Develop, evaluate, fine-tune, and deploy machine learning models using Python, PyTorch, and large language models.
• Lead technical initiatives from design through deployment, establish engineering standards, and make architectural decisions.
• Build scalable model APIs, MLOps pipelines, and cloud-based ML infrastructure; support workflows using tools such as Airflow.
• Monitor model performance, reliability, governance, and operating costs.
• Mentor junior engineers and collaborate with product teams, business stakeholders, and other technical partners.

Qualifications

• At least six years of professional experience building and deploying production AI or ML systems.
• Hands-on experience with generative AI, LLMs, agentic workflows, and RAG architectures.
• Strong Python and machine learning skills, including experience training, fine-tuning, and deploying neural networks with PyTorch.
• Experience with MLOps, Docker, Kubernetes or AWS EKS, AWS or Azure, workflow orchestration, and API development.
• Bachelor's degree in a related field; a master's degree or PhD is preferred.
• Experience leading technical projects, mentoring colleagues, and communicating with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

Compensation

Expected base salary for Toronto roles is CAD $150,000-$200,000. Actual compensation may vary based on relevant factors. The role may also include other compensation and benefits.
