Senior Modem Verification Engineer

MARS Recruitment

Oxford · England · United Kingdom

Senior Modem Verification Engineer | Next-Gen Wireless Comms | Start-up | Oxford / Hybrid | 1 day per week onsite

A once in a lifetime opportunity has arisen for a Senior Modem Verification Engineer to have a major impact in the development of next generation wireless communications. Our client is an early stage, fast paced, independently funded start-up, who has strong links to the University of Oxford. Led by a talented team with considerable wireless communications sector experience and specialist subject knowledge, their mission is to enable safe and efficient wireless communication systems which will ultimately protect our way of life.

This Senior Modem Verification Engineer role will establish and own the verification approach for my clients modem and communications products, providing the automated test, regression and evidence framework needed to move rapidly from development through integration and field evaluation.

The Senior Modem Verification Engineer will work across modem software, FPGA, protocol-stack, embedded and platform-integration teams to define how components and complete systems are verified. They will build repeatable test infrastructure, analyse results, investigate failures with engineering leads, and ensure that product performance and release decisions are supported by objective evidence.

  • Strong professional experience in verification, test or systems engineering for communications, DSP, embedded, FPGA-based or similarly complex real-time products.
  • Experience designing automated verification and regression frameworks rather than only executing manually defined test procedures.
  • Strong understanding of digital communications or signal processing systems, sufficient to interpret modem performance data and work effectively with PHY/DSP engineers.
  • Practical experience validating numerical or signal processing implementations against reference models, expected outputs or golden vector datasets.
  • Experience with Python, C/C++ and/or MATLAB or equivalent tools for test automation, data analysis and engineering investigation.
  • Experience with CI/CD or continuous integration environments, automated test execution, version control and disciplined software release practices.
  • Strong analytical ability, including interpreting large test datasets, identifying regressions, reproducing failures and helping multidisciplinary teams isolate root causes.
  • Experience defining test plans, acceptance criteria and objective pass/fail measures for complex engineering systems.
  • Ability to work across software, FPGA, embedded, RF and systems disciplines without taking ownership away from the engineers responsible for those components.
  • Strong written communication and documentation skills, including clear test specifications, results, defect evidence and verification reports.
  • Comfort operating as a hands-on senior engineer in a small, fast-moving multidisciplinary team.
  • UK-based, able to work effectively with UK defence customers, and eligible for appropriate security vetting where required.

MARS Recruitment is an equal opportunities employer and positively welcomes applications from suitably qualified applicants regardless of race, colour, sex, marital status, national origin, religion, age, disability, or any other protected status.
