In this role you will lead assessment and design of enterprise network architecture within a secure defence environment, delivering current-state designs and practical roadmaps. You will work with the Defence programme's Architecture and Network teams to minimise risk and enable active/active connectivity across two data centres. Your work will include documenting designs, evaluating Cisco ACI, routing, firewall and load-balancing arrangements, and articulating implementation impacts. Responsibilities
  • Review live network implementation and legacy design across both data centres to identify gaps
  • Produce current-state High Level Designs and Low Level Designs with topology diagrams and dependencies
  • Assess Cisco ACI, routing, firewall, and load-balancing arrangements with architecture and network teams
  • Create a Network Review and Recommendation Report outlining practical, low-risk improvements
  • Explore Cisco ACI application-centric capabilities including segmentation and policies
  • Present a prioritised roadmap with sequencing, dependencies, and service impact
  • Develop a Network Disaster Recovery Capability Report for true active/active connectivity
  • Explain connectivity limitations, implementation approaches, risks, and required hardware/software/licensing
  • Lead technical review discussions and secure sign-off of design documentation
  • Maintain controlled documentation and contribute to risk/issue reporting through secure channels
Key requirements
  • Strong enterprise network architecture experience with high/low-level design production
  • Hands-on Cisco ACI experience (fabric, tenants, VRFs, bridge domains, endpoint groups, contracts)
  • Strong Cisco routing knowledge, IP addressing, routing protocols, data centre connectivity
  • Experience reviewing Cisco ASA firewall configurations, policies, NAT, high-availability
  • Experience with F5 load balancers (traffic management, health monitoring, resilience)
  • Experience assessing disaster recovery and active/active designs, failover and stateful dependencies
  • Ability to investigate live configurations safely and propose proportionate changes
  • Strong technical writing, diagramming and stakeholder communication; formal review experience
