Senior Payments Platform Engineer

Build secure, scalable payment systems as a Senior Engineer at Xero’s Vancouver office, using distributed services and modern backend technologies. You will own significant payments initiatives from technical design through production validation. The work spans orchestration, provider integrations, onboarding, risk, reconciliation, and bill payments. You will balance customer simplicity, financial control, reliability, scalability, and long-term maintainability while collaborating with product and engineering partners. The Vancouver team works hybrid, with home flexibility and office boost days one or two days weekly. Key Responsibilities:

Own payment platform capabilities from design through production Build reusable, provider-agnostic payment foundations Design reliable distributed services for high-throughput workloads Improve systems while delivering customer value quickly Shape engineering practices and quality standards Requirements:

Experience delivering highly available distributed cloud-native systems End-to-end ownership of significant technical initiatives Strong architecture, API, data-store, and trade-off judgment Backend proficiency in Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, Ruby, or C++ Commitment to mentoring, code reviews, pairing, and documentation Bring hands-on backend engineering, payment platform expertise, and sound architectural judgment to Xero’s Vancouver team.
