Overview

In this Senior Platform Engineer role, you design and lead the building blocks of a modern digital service platform, focusing on automation, deployment, and live operation. You collaborate across engineering, testing, product management, and security to deliver scalable, secure, and high-performing services. You will mentor junior colleagues and explore new technologies, driving impact for defence and national security projects. This role offers hands-on leadership in a fast-paced, people-first environment with growth opportunities.

Responsibilities
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to build, test, and deploy high-quality software
  • Apply modern technologies and best practices to maximize user and business value
  • Foster an inclusive DevOps culture and support teammates
  • Lead conversations on scalability, security, and reliability with customers and team
  • Support services in live operation ensuring availability, security, and performance
  • Model Kainos values, coach junior members, and mentor peers
  • Develop specialized technical focus areas over time
  • Contribute to architectural decisions, MVP advocacy, and product planning
Key requirements
  • Strong teamwork in multidisciplinary settings
  • Excellent verbal and written communication to technical and non-technical audiences
  • Extensive experience with configuration management, infrastructure provisioning, and automation tools
  • Fluency in at least one scripting language (PowerShell, Bash, Python, Ruby, Go, Groovy)
  • Experience designing, building, testing, automating, and supporting components of a modern digital service platform
  • Ability to implement Continuous Delivery and manage production releases
  • Proficiency with cloud platforms (AWS or Azure) and container/orchestration tooling
  • Experience with version control (git) and debugging across complex environments
