Overview

In this role you will design and validate FACTS-based transmission solutions as part of DNV's global FlexGrid venture. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver systems that improve affordability, reliability and sustainability of electricity networks. You’ll lead feasibility studies, modelling, and control strategies, while representing DNV at conferences and informing standards. The role offers international travel and opportunities to mentor junior consultants. This position combines technical depth with strategic impact in shaping modern grid expansion.

Responsibilities
  • Create conceptual designs for FACTS and AC systems and perform feasibility analyses of CAPEX, OPEX, losses and constructability
  • Develop and review electrical system studies, equipment specs, and general arrangements for FACTS systems and substations
  • Lead or review dynamic modelling, stability analysis, and other system studies for FACTS
  • Design and refine converter control, fault management, and grid code compliance strategies for multi-terminal projects
  • Prepare specifications, support tenders, and witness FAT/SAT to ensure regulatory and customer-fit solutions
  • Deliver clear technical reports and commercial offers; contribute to service portfolio and market monitoring
  • Represent DNV at conferences, contribute to standards work, and engage in business development
  • Coach and mentor junior consultants on technical career growth
Key requirements
  • Extensive hands-on FACTS project experience across development phases
  • Strong knowledge of FACTS integration studies, software tools, and regulatory standards (IEC, CIGRE, IEEE)
  • Clear communicator who simplifies complex concepts and collaborates across teams
  • Willingness to travel up to 20% for client meetings, conferences, and site visits
  • Familiarity with multi-terminal FACTS, fault clearing, interoperability, and procurement processes is beneficial
  • Experience with industrial simulation tools (PSSE, PSCAD, PSLF) is beneficial
