Overview

As a Senior Python Django Backend Developer at RWS Protect, you will own the back-end services and APIs powering our AI-driven IP protection tools. You will shape architecture, data models, and integration patterns to deliver reliable, production-grade software at scale. You’ll work closely with product, QA, and front-end teams to translate requirements into robust solutions and drive performance, security, and maintainability. This role offers impact by connecting AI capabilities to client data and workflows, helping innovators protect ideas. You’ll lead by example, mentor others and help set technical direction for the Back End team.

Responsibilities
  • Lead design and delivery of back-end features, APIs and integrations from requirements to release
  • Maintain clean, well-tested Python/Django code and set coding standards
  • Own architectural decisions for back-end services, data models, and API design
  • Design/optimise PostgreSQL schemas and queries for large data sets
  • Build/operate asynchronous and scheduled workloads with Celery and Redis
  • Design/maintain REST APIs and secure third-party integrations
  • Support release readiness via debugging, testing, performance tuning, observability, and documentation
  • Mentor engineers, improve code reviews, and contribute to team onboarding and documentation
  • Collaborate with product, QA, and client-facing teams to balance speed and quality
  • Identify and reduce technical debt and communicate trade-offs to stakeholders
Key requirements
  • Substantial commercial experience building and shipping Python/Django back-end applications with Django REST Framework
  • Strong PostgreSQL skills including schema design, indexing, and optimizing large queries
  • Hands-on experience with Celery and Redis for asynchronous work, with retries and idempotency
  • Deep understanding of back-end architecture, API design, security, and third-party integrations
  • Experience mentoring or technically leading engineers in an agile/CI/CD/testing environment
  • Excellent debugging, problem-solving, and code-review abilities with clear communication of risks and trade-offs
  • Mentoring and leadership in a multi-disciplinary team
  • Clear communication of technical decisions to technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Collaborative, proactive problem-solving and ownership of delivery
