Senior Scala Engineer

Senior Scala Engineer required to join a major organisation’s technology programme on a long-term engagement, working in a hybrid capacity from London with competitive rates.

Active SC clearance required.

You’ll join a specialist engineering team, developing secure, high-volume and low-latency APIs that support critical business services.

• Design and develop robust, scalable and testable backend APIs using Scala.
• Help shape future architecture and consolidate existing services.
• Improve existing systems and reduce technical maintenance through incremental re-architecting.
• Develop and manage reliable databases and applications with strong security and data protection.
• Design solutions for high-volume, high-availability and low-latency services.
• Collaborate with Product Owners, Business Analysts, Data Engineers and wider delivery teams.
• Contribute to continuous integration, testing, automation and production support.
• Investigate and resolve service issues and support applications during incidents.
• Participate in an Agile, collaborative and cross-functional engineering environment.

Technical Skills

Strong experience with Scala, Play or other MVC/REST API frameworks, SQL, AWS, Continuous Integration and Agile methodologies is essential.

Experience with Docker/containerisation, Jenkins, Kibana, Grafana or Airflow is desirable.

• Strong commercial experience developing backend services and APIs using Scala.
• Good understanding of API design, databases, data analysis and secure application development.
• Experience working with AWS and continuous integration environments.
• Understanding of SRE principles, monitoring and production support.
• Comfortable working with high-volume, highly available services.
• Proactive, collaborative and able to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• Strong focus on clean, maintainable and testable code.
• Comfortable working in a lean, Agile and “you build it, you run it” environment.
• Active SC clearance is essential.
