THE ROLE A hands-on Senior Software Developer is needed to join a small in-house development team supporting a bespoke, business-critical system. You'll learn the platform from the people who built it, strengthen and extend it, and play a key part in shaping how it evolves as the business plans its next steps. ABOUT THE CLIENT My client is a well-established, successful business whose operations run on an in-house system built on SQL Server with a Microsoft Access front end. They're investing in their technology team and taking a pragmatic approach to modernisation: keep what works, improve it steadily, and decide the future direction with the right people on board. THE BENEFITS £55,000 - £65,000 depending on experience Hybrid working - 2-3 days per week on-site A senior voice in how a business-critical platform develops Stability and investment from an established, growing business THE SENIOR SOFTWARE DEVELOPER ROLE Develop, support and enhance a complex SQL Server-backed system with a Microsoft Access front end Write and optimise T-SQL, including stored procedures, views and queries Maintain and extend Access/VBA code across a large existing codebase Build a deep understanding of the system, working closely with the Head of Systems and the wider team Contribute ideas on how the platform should be modernised over time Bring good development practice to the team, such as source control, documentation and testing ESSENTIAL SKILLS Strong commercial experience with SQL Server and T-SQL Commercial experience with Microsoft Access and VBA Confident working in a large, complex existing codebase A pragmatic approach to legacy systems, improving what's there rather than rewriting from scratch Experience with other languages or platforms (e.g. C#/.NET, Python) would be a strong advantage
