Amazon Development Centre Canada ULC - K03

Vancouver · Metro Vancouver Regional District · Canada

At the frontier of cloud analytics, Amazon S3 Tables is redefining what a storage system can do — and the team in Vancouver, BC is looking for a Senior Software Development Manager to lead the charge. This is a rare leadership opportunity to own the technical vision and multi-year roadmap of a fast-growing, high-impact service built on the most durable storage infrastructure ever created.

S3 Tables is the first cloud object store with native Apache Iceberg support, engineered for analytics workloads at exabyte scale . From streaming IoT telemetry ingestion to multi-petabyte lakehouses and AI agent data access via the Model Context Protocol, the problems this team tackles are genuinely novel. As the leader of this multi-team organization, you'll be at the intersection of distributed systems , open-source table formats, and the open analytics ecosystem — partnering across AWS, the Apache Iceberg community, and enterprise customers worldwide.

About the Role: Senior Software Development Manager, S3

This position calls for a leader who is energized by problems that only emerge at S3 scale. You will own architectural decisions for metadata services , compaction and optimization pipelines, snapshot and transaction management, and engine integrations — all while growing and mentoring a team of senior engineers and engineering managers. The role demands both strategic depth and hands‑on technical credibility.

You will work closely with product, business, and AWS analytics leadership to translate customer needs into engineering priorities, represent S3 Tables in senior leadership reviews and external forums, and help shape the evolution of Apache Iceberg in the cloud. This is a builder's role on a team that is early in its journey, moving quickly, and inventing in places others assume are already solved.
