Overview

As a Senior Software Engineer at QinetiQ Farnborough, you will help design, develop, and deliver software for advanced defence and radar systems. You’ll work within an expert team, shaping software that interfaces with specialist hardware and influences technical direction. This role covers the full software lifecycle, from architecture to deployment, with a focus on high-quality, hardware-integrated solutions. Responsibilities
  • Design and maintain software across Windows and Linux environments
  • Develop low-level software, device drivers and hardware interfaces for specialist systems
  • Contribute to software architecture, technical strategy and long-term product development
  • Lead code reviews and promote software engineering best practices
  • Support Agile delivery activities including sprint planning and technical decision-making
  • Mentor engineers and foster a culture of continuous improvement
Key requirements
  • Strong C and C++ software development experience
  • Experience developing software in Linux environments
  • Experience designing and architecting software for complex systems
  • Experience interfacing software with hardware devices and platforms
  • Knowledge of device driver development and low-level software principles
  • Experience working in Agile, DevOps or modern software delivery environments
  • Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent industry experience
  • Significant software engineering experience at Senior level and demonstrable technical leadership
  • Mentoring and people development
