Overview

In this role, you will own and deliver software engineering work packages for embedded Linux platforms on ARM and Intel devices. You’ll contribute across the full lifecycle, from requirements to testing and commissioning, while supporting other teams and bids. The position sits in the Rail Infrastructure, Mobile Communications domain, shaping on‑board GSM-R and next‑gen rail communications with 4G/5G technology. You’ll collaborate with cross‑functional teams to create robust, scalable software that adds value for customers and the business.

Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of complete engineering work packages within scope, budget, quality, and schedule
  • Apply systems engineering across the full lifecycle from requirements to deployment
  • Provide technical guidance to project teams and bid activities
  • Support sales and bid teams with technical solutions and stakeholder relationships
  • Drive complex product development through all lifecycle stages
  • Lead demonstrations, trials, and evaluations of new products
  • Develop cost estimates and assist project planning to meet targets
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to solve technical challenges
Key requirements
  • Strong experience developing software for Linux-based embedded systems
  • Experience designing and developing network communications solutions (GSM, GSM-R, 4G/5G)
  • Proficiency in C++ and Qt-based GUI development for embedded platforms; exposure to Wayland and Linux graphics desirable
  • Knowledge of IBM Rational SDL and TTCN Suite or similar telecom software tools
  • Understanding of secure coding principles and reliable software practices
  • Experience in Agile and DevOps environments; rail industry experience advantageous
