Senior Software Engineer

Remote first, 1 day a week in Reading | £70-80k

The opportunity

Our client is a heritage sports brand with 100 years of history. It was recently backed by a leading private equity firm and is now going fully digital. It’s building camera based auto scoring tech that powers online play, live stats and training for players worldwide. You’ll build the Go services and databases behind it, working with the hardware, product and frontend teams.

What you’ll be doing

• Build and maintain backend REST services in Go
• Design and evolve the SQL data model behind those services
• Help define the backend architecture and refine user stories with product
• Integrate APIs with the frontend team
• Write automated tests and deploy to production
• Monitor performance and quality in production with ops
• Share knowledge through code reviews and pair programming

What we’re looking for

• 4+ years commercial experience in Go, or a similar language like Kotlin or Rust
• Backend experience on a high volume consumer product
• Strong REST API experience
• Fluent SQL and familiarity with PostgreSQL
• Automated testing and exposure to CI/CD pipelines
• Comfortable thinking at architecture level
• A figure it out attitude. Priorities move fast and you’ll have freedom to shape the work

Bonus points if you have

• Kubernetes and containerised deployments
• Grafana and Loki for observability
• Swift or Kotlin for native mobile, or a feel for modern frontend
