Overview

In this Senior Software Engineer role within ASOS FinOps in London, you will own and evolve the platform that makes cloud costs visible, attributable and actionable. You will build data products and tooling to help engineering teams optimize Azure usage, while shaping technical direction and delivering production-grade solutions. You’ll collaborate closely with Finance, Product Delivery, and other engineering teams to drive cost efficiency at scale. The role combines platform ownership, data engineering, and DevOps practices to support business value from cloud spend.

Responsibilities
  • Design and deliver data products for Azure cost visibility and attribution, including pipelines, allocation models, anomaly detection and reporting surfaces
  • Own the cost and usage data platform on Databricks, ingesting cost exports, reservations data, inventory and tagging into Delta Lake and modeling into trusted datasets
  • Build Power BI semantic models with DAX, managed as code through TMDL and XMLA
  • Lead optimisation across the estate (right-sizing, autoscaling, storage tiering, data transfer and cleanup)
  • Own the FinOps platform stack (Azure Functions, Bicep IaC, managed identities, RBAC, multi-environment CI/CD, monitoring and alerts)
  • Engage Product Delivery Teams on architectures and trade-offs to enable efficient technical decisions
  • Build guardrails for cost allocation and cloud usage (tag policies, Azure Policy, budgets, exception reporting)
  • Develop unit economics linking cloud spend to business value (cost per order/customer/request)
  • Support forecasting, budgeting and variance analysis with Finance and explain cloud spend movements
  • Set technical direction for FinOps engineering, including code reviews, design reviews and mentoring
  • Explore agentic AI tools (GitHub Copilot and Claude Code) to enhance investigation, development and reporting workflows
  • Write high-quality, well-tested code and collaborate with Cyber Security to embed security and compliance
Key requirements
  • Strong hands-on Azure engineering experience with IaC and production services
  • DevOps mindset with CI/CD (GitHub Actions preferred), automated testing, safe promotions, monitoring and incident response
  • Strong Python production experience (services or data products)
  • Power BI semantic modeling and DAX experience with robust models
