Senior Software Engineer

As an AML Risk Engineer at Wise, you design and scale detection controls to combat money laundering and terrorist financing. You’ll own large projects, shaping technical roadmaps and delivering measurable impact across products and regions. You’ll work with cross-functional teammates to improve reliability, security, and overall quality while mentoring others. This role offers the chance to influence how Wise detects financial crime at scale, reducing false alerts and friction for legitimate customers.

• Design and build AML detection controls that scale and evolve
• Own large projects, their technical roadmaps, and delivery
• Shape product decisions and explain customer problems and impact
• Improve reliability, security, and technical quality
• Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team

• 5+ years of experience building backend systems, distributed systems, or data-intensive systems
• Expertise in your technical discipline
• Understanding of team’s technical and business domain
• Ability to design systems with long-term change and scale in mind
• Experience mentoring and coaching other engineers
• AML or financial crime experience preferred but not required
• Experience running machine learning or large language models in production preferred but not required
