Overview
In this Senior Android Engineer role, you join the SDUI team to build and scale an Android renderer for a server-driven UI platform that powers iOS, Android, and Web experiences. You will drive architectural decisions, mentor others, and collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure fast, native-like surfaces. The role focuses on delivering scalable, real-time UI updates and moving away from legacy rendering systems. This is a London-based, hybrid opportunity with meaningful work that directly accelerates Deliveroo’s growth and platform reliability.

- Design, build, and evolve the Android SDUI renderer and the backend services (Kotlin, Golang, Protobuf)
- Lead architectural improvements and code reviews to maintain maintainability and operational health
- Collaborate with iOS, Web renderer engineers, product and design teams to plan rollouts and align platform decisions
- Own large-scale initiatives from design to delivery, including improving motion/interaction quality to native levels and migrating from legacy systems
- Mentor teammates and participate in engineering hiring processes
- 5+ years building Android applications at scale
- Strong Kotlin and Jetpack Compose expertise
- Backend development experience with Golang, Kotlin, and Protobuf
- Experience with server-driven/declarative UI systems; bonus for Litho or DSL-based renderers
- Product mindset and experience designing platform services for multi-team use
- Ownership of technical delivery within cross-functional teams
- Strong communication across time zones with iOS, Web, Backend, PMs, and product teams
