Senior Software Engineer - Backend

As a Backend Engineer at Fitch Group, you will design and maintain scalable, secure backend services and APIs that power our data and ratings platforms. You’ll work within the FDR Data Tech team to deliver reliable data infrastructure and API-driven solutions, collaborating with cross-functional partners. You’ll contribute to architectural decisions, performance improvements, and automated testing in a cloud-focused, agile environment. • Design, develop, and maintain scalable backend services and APIs
• Build backend services using Java/Spring Boot and/or Python (FastAPI or similar)
• Develop and integrate APIs and data services with enterprise data platforms and databases (SQL/NoSQL)
• Collaborate with product owners, designers, and data/engineering teams to deliver business-aligned solutions
• Contribute to architectural decisions and implement best practices for performance, scalability, and maintainability
• Ensure code quality through automated testing (unit/integration) and code reviews
• Troubleshoot and resolve complex technical issues, optimizing performance and reliability
• Support CI/CD pipelines and DevSecOps practices for secure deployments
• Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering standards, tooling, and processes

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent practical experience)
• 3–5+ years of hands-on full-stack software development
• Strong proficiency in Java (Spring Boot) and/or Python (FastAPI or similar)
• Solid experience building and consuming RESTful APIs and working with distributed systems
• Strong database skills (SQL required; PL/SQL or optimization a plus)
• Understanding of microservices, event-driven architecture, scalability, performance
• Experience with testing frameworks and automated test suites
• Familiarity with cloud environments (AWS preferred) and modern development tooling
• Strong problem-solving, attention to detail, and ability to work in agile, collaborative environments
• Exposure to AI-assisted development tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Amazon Q)
