In this Senior Software Engineer role, you will help architect and optimize Roku’s core UI systems and rendering engines to deliver a smooth, graphics-rich experience across embedded devices. You’ll tackle low-level performance challenges, shape APIs for higher-level frameworks, and collaborate with firmware and driver teams to leverage hardware capabilities. The role combines systems programming with AI-enabled tooling to accelerate development and profiling. It’s a hands-on position aimed at pushing microsecond-level performance in a fast-growing, collaborative environment.

- Architect and optimize core C++ UI frameworks and rendering engines for cross-hardware performance
- Lead investigations into bottlenecks, memory leaks, and GPU/CPU synchronization issues
- Develop and maintain low-level graphics APIs and layout systems for Roku’s ecosystem
- Integrate AI/ML capabilities at the systems level to optimize code generation and profiling
- Collaborate with firmware and driver teams for hardware-specific optimizations
- Mentor junior developers via code reviews, design sessions, and core-systems documentation
- Drive engineering excellence with debugging tools, automated performance regression suites, and modern C++ practices
- 5+ years of software engineering with a strong C++ focus (C++14/17/20)
- Deep systems programming experience (memory management, multi-threading, abstraction layers)
- Experience with graphics APIs (OpenGL, Vulkan, or proprietary embedded stacks) and rendering pipelines
- Proficiency in Python for tooling; BrightScript or JavaScript knowledge a plus
- Strong root-cause analysis skills using GDB, Valgrind, or platform profilers
- Knowledge of AI applications and hands-on experience with generative AI tools
