Senior Software Engineer - Customer Order

In this role you will help evolve the Customer Order Domain for a leading UK retailer, delivering scalable backend services and robust APIs. You will work with cross-functional teams to enable product, engineering, and business stakeholders to process orders efficiently across channels. You will shape how orders are created, fulfilled, and managed through event-driven architectures and modern patterns. This is a hands-on opportunity to build high-volume transactional systems that power millions of customer interactions and experiences.

- Design, build, and evolve backend services supporting the complete customer order lifecycle from creation to fulfilment
- Develop scalable microservices and APIs using Java/Kotlin for multi-channel order processing
- Contribute to event-driven architectures using Kafka for high-volume transactional workflows
- Design and evolve GraphQL and REST APIs for performance, scalability, and developer experience
- Build resilient, low-latency solutions with distributed databases and caching
- Collaborate with Product Managers, Engineers, Architects, and stakeholders to solve commerce challenges
- Strong backend engineer with production experience designing scalable services
- Experience with Java and/or Kotlin and modern microservice architectures
- Ability to build reusable backend capabilities for multiple teams
- Solid understanding of distributed systems, event-driven architectures, and asynchronous messaging
- Experience designing API-first platforms with GraphQL and REST
- Comfort with high-volume transactional systems demanding reliability and performance
